It was around this time in 2012 that I started to work on my first ever song. Although I had played with garageband before, that was all just silly stuff and I was too shy to try my actual ideas. But in late March 2012, I had an idea and instead of shoving it to the back of my mind and not making it because I thought other people would think it was stupid, I decided to make it anyway. I made a song called 'Are You Real'. I uploaded it to BBC Introducing, and to my surprise, BBC Music Introducing in the West played it (April 2012). This encouraged me to keep going. When I had learned a bit more about music production, I always wanted to remake it. I attempted a couple times over the years, but it never sounded 'right' to me. This year it's been 10 years since I made that first song, and I found the sound I wanted. I still use the same sorts of methods to design sound, but I don't hold back and I'm not scared to try new things anymore. Soon after making that first sound in Garageband, I moved on to Ableton and I've never looked back. Now that I've found the sound I want, I've been able to finish remaking 'Are You Real'. It was really fun to make and it has also helped me to acknowledge everything I have learned.
